Conflict with Conflict Management

By Tapiwa Munyira: Conflict is defined in the oxford dictionary as  "a serious disagreement or argument, a prolonged armed struggle or an incompatibility between opinions and or principles". It is commonly misconstrued in a work environment that conflict is a disagreement between two or more people usually drawn by differences in personalities. The question on how one manages conflict is increasingly becoming a popular question in job interviews and many times candidates cite examples where they have been some form of disagreement with colleagues, managers or subordinates. This is what this writing terms conflict with conflict management. Conflict is not all about personal differences, it takes a broader dimension in the work environment. Realising the types of conflict will help you identify conflict situations and therefore the most effective conflict management skills required. This paper will briefly discuss 2 types of conflict, i. Conflict between individuals and ii. Conflict from policy change.

Tackling Zimbabwes Failing Exams System

By Tapiwa Munyira: Zimbabwes primary and secondary education system has been crumbling in the last decade. Amongst shortages of resources such as books, writing material, teachers and cost of education, the schools examination system has also been suffering major set backs. The economic situation of the country has made delivery, marking and reviewing examinations a challenge for the government and a frustration for the all stakeholders.  In this paper, I give anecdotal analysis on strategies that Zimbabwes Ministry of Education can employ to overcome the problems of marking examination papers in relation to the cost of undertaking the process.  I give the recommendation to reduce the cost burden of Grade 7 and ZJC examinations on the government expenditure through decentralisation , capacity building and utilisation of teaching staff at no extra cost. I pass the view that the significance of Grade 7 and ZJC examinations to the future of pupils is arguably insignificant. However instead of recommending a total removal of these examinations, I recommend alternative initiatives that continue to assess the progress of pupils whilst reducing the burden on government expenditure. This is no more than a speculative writing based on consultancy experience with Local Authorities (Council) in the UK specifically under the umbrella of Children and Young People Services encompassing both Education and Social Welfare.

Zimbabwes Agriculture Strategies after Land Grab

By Tapiwa Munyira: The microeconomic outcome of the land redistribution exercise in Zimbabwe has increased the subsistence farming outcome of communal/ smallscale farmers and inspired confidence and knowledge of own agriculture production. Whilst the household food self sufficiency may have improved, the majority of city dwellers and those with no land still have to rely of puchases. The macroeconomic image is that the country therefore still does not produce adequate food to feed the nation. Zimbabwe has moved from being the breadbasket and net exporter of food to a net importer. The GDP and GNP has therefore declined aplace Zimbabwe into further economic and Agricultural is in problems. The governments initiatives with land redistribution, input schemes and mechanisation schemes has not improved the countrys food position and security. This paper proposes that the Zimbabwean Minstry of Agriculture concentrates on improving the National Food Position by employing long term strategies. In this paper I recommend that the government refrains from having the smaller farms where the expertises in agriculture are minimal and the administration of the various schemes is difficult. I recommend that the government reintergrates farms into large commercial farms, employ agricultural multi-discplinary teams to runs and manage the farms and concentrates the inputs and mechanisation schemes on these large farms. I propose the multi-disciplinary farm team be composed of graduates i. crop science graduate - for crop husbandry ii) animal science graduate - for animal husbandry iii) soil science graduate - soil nutriention iv) agic engineer - machinery, irrigation and v) agriculture economist - for overal management.
